Food Review
Welcome the Year of Horse with unique creations at Crystal Jade Golden Palace, where you get to try new flavours of festive treats and the return of its popular traditional favourite Pen Cai (Treasure Pot) and Fortune Bo Lo Pineapple Tarts! *ps: my favourite~ 😛
Health, Wealth and Prosperity forms the theme for this year’s Lunar New Year menu for Crystal Jade. As they believe that health is the greatest weatlh one can be blessed with, they have created new dishes and desserts with nutritious and nourishing ingredients. Eat healthy yeah~
We started off with Crystal Jade Golden Palace’s Hearty Five Treasure Yu Sheng ($78.80 for a small serving and $128.80 for a large serving), a mixture of fresh vegetable salad and slices of sweet mango, pine nuts, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, white sesame and peanuts and most importantly the yu sheng, which is the tender salmon and premium amberjack fish slices.
Topped with gold leaf flakes and drizzled with Crystal Jade’s special blend of plum sauce and hazelnut oil, we toss to abundant wealth and health in the Year of the Horse! HUAT AH~ 😛

I quite like the yusheng, the mixed of various seeds and the crispy yam made the whole dish taste really good 🙂
Next we have the Deep-fried Japanese Amadai sprinkled with Shichimi Powder ($5.50/37.5gm). It has a sweet, light and elegant flavour with the zesty seven-flavoured powder, a blend of chillies, dried orang peel, peppercorns, sesame seeds, dried ginger and seaweed.
The after taste is so addictive that it leaves one craving for another mouthful.
Lobster, also known as the Dragon of the Sea, is an auspicious combination of the symbols of strength, happiness and good fortune was our next upcoming dish. The Stewed Canadian Lobster in Superior Broth ($11/100gm), was first seared with hot oil and simmered for a few mins in superior stock containing halibut, which creates a healthy lobster dish that is naturally sweet, low in calories yet high in protein. The flesh is SOOO juicy and succulent, heavenlicious!
If you are a pork and mushroom lover, i’m sure you will love the Sauteéd Kurobuta Pork Strips with Assorted Mushroom & Capsicum ($32.00/Small). Featuring strips of premium Kurobuta pork from Japan with its tender, rich and juciy texture sauteéd with a generous splash of mushrooms, capsicum and cordycep flowers. The use of organic raw extra virgin coconut oil permeates the dish with a light, fragrant and creamy base.
I strongly recommend the following dish as it really surprises me. For a healthy staple in place of rice, the Braised Sea Cucumber & Scallop with Barley in Special Sauce ($38.00/small) in which pieces of sweet scallops are lightly seared and braised with the sea cucumber in a dainty claypot in superior stock. Sauteéd fresh asparagus, golden corn, wheat and barley are then added to it. It’s so good that i guess im the first to finish everything. Ops :X
Lastly we end the Lunar New Year feast with a selection of cakes that will be available for takeaway orders from all Crystal Jade restaurants. The Black-eyed Pea Cake and Carrot Cake ($25.80 each/round) and the Glutinous Rice Cake ($23.80/round).
These unique and seasonal creations for Lunar New Year 2014 are only available at Crystal Jade Golden Palace located at Paragon Shopping Centre from now until the end of the Lunar New Year on 14 February 2014.
