Singapore Airlines (SIA) had launched the Discover Your Singapore Airlines suite of experiences, which comprises exciting activities and all-new initiatives that have been specially curated for fans in Singapore across the month of October and November. Starting off with the successful launch of the SIA@Home, where you get to experience SIA First Class or Business Class dining in the comfort of your home.

Another successful launch was the Restaurant A380 @Changi, which was fully sold out within 30 mins after the booking site when live. With the rising demand and to avoid disappointment, they’ve added additional dates and sessions so that more people can enjoy this special experience.

We didn’t manage to get a slot when it was first open for registration, but we were on the waitlist. I was extremely excited when I received a call from them 1 week ago to inform me that there are available slots for a dining experience and without much hesitation, we proceed with our booking for a dinner session on 25 Oct.

Check-In

It’s been quite a while since our last visit to the airport and also to have my last #OOTD shot at the departure area to mark the start of my holiday. I’m glad that I can do this once again.

Note that though you are not flying anywhere, you will still need to bring along your passport with you and to be handed over to the airport crew before entering the immigration hall. The standard rules and regulations of what you can bring on board the plane remain and the safety bag check will still be carried out by the security staff. So do remember to empty your bottle if you are carrying one with you.

Duty-Free Shopping

Depending on which session you are going to, Duty-free shopping is available after your dining experience if you are going for a lunch session, and before your dining experience if you are going for a dinner session. Restaurant A380 @Changi customers can enjoy exclusive privileges and discounts too!

Pre-Boarding Activities

As our dinner session starts at 7:00pm, check-in commences from 4:15pm onwards and there are a series of activities available for you to participate while waiting to board to plane.

One of the must-do is the aircraft tour (pre-registration required upon receiving your booking confirmation) where you get to tour around the world’s largest passenger plane and explore the various classes on the plane. You will also get to visit the cockpit and have a photo taken with the pilot too!

Other activities such as digital caricature, batik rose making, a photo opportunity with the cabin crew are available for you to participate. There is also a fashion showcase of the past SIA uniform too!

Economy Class Dining Experience

At a price of $50 per pax, you get to dine at the Economy Class. If you are feeling rich, you can go for the Premium Economy ($90), Business Class (~$300) or Suite (~$600).

Upon making a successful booking, you will receive a confirmation email from the airlines to fill in your particulars, as well as to make your meal selection. Options include the signature international cuisine, as well as the best dishes from their special Peranakan menu that has been designed by acclaimed Singaporean chef Shermay Lee.

We ordered the Ayam Tempra and Brinjal Sambal – Shermay Lee’s Selection and the Miso Kakuni, where both are served with Roasted Chicken with Potato and Pumpkin Salad, and a Haagen Dazs Ice Cream.

The Ayam Tempra and Brinjal Sambal were amazing! The chicken was glazed in soy sauce with onions and calamansi lime juice which gave it a tangy taste, and the slightly spicy fried brinjals in sambal paired well with the steamed Jasmine Rice. Two iconic Noya recipes in one dish!

Miso Kakuni

As for the Miso Kakuni, the Japanese style miso flavoured stewed pork was soft and tender, and comes with three cute rolls of bamboo shoot rice and seasonal vegetables.

Conclusion – Worth the Money?

A lot had been asking me on the experience and if it’s worth the money. I would definitely give it a yes, probably because I’m paying for the Economy class seat, which is at $50.

The food and experience were great! Especially the feeling of boarding a plane, and having the best services that we are all familiar with from SIA cabin crew. That brings back lots of fond memories. If you were to ask me, I think spending a $50 for this experience is definitely more worth it than spending on a Gold Class ticket in the cinema, as you get to watch a movie onboard the flight too.

This is the best we can get for now and I hope we can soon fly again, with my favourite Singapore Airlines.
