“Chiak Simi” translated as “what to eat ?” is a phrase that many Singaporeans ask each other on a daily basis. Well if you are working around the Mapletree business city area then Chiak might be a good option.
The ordering process is fairly simple, make your own bowl(8.80SGD onwards) with a carb, a protein, 2 sides and customize with 3 toppings and a dressing. If you cannot decide, select one from the signature bowls comprising of salads or even soup options. During lunch, the option of adding a honey spiced wings & prawn otah plus a drink or coconut Ice-cream and a drink is available. Go for the coconut ice-cream as it is a delight! better than the ones in Chatuchak market in my opinion.
During our visit, we tried the Teriyaki Chicken bowl(10.8SGD) with Soba, Chinese kale, tomatoes & coriander leaf. The chicken was tender and the teriyaki sauce was not overly salty, overall pretty good meal in a bowl.
For variety we ordered the Teriyaki chicken brioche Sandwich(7.8SGD). If you are familiar with American sliders, this is the Asian version. Now for the taste test, the chicken was tender and the same teriyaki sauce was drizzled on the chicken which was quite different from the chicken in the bowls where the meat was cooked together with the sauce. The bun was light toasted giving it a slightly crispy bite on the outside while having a soft interior. Overall the sandwich was yummy with the crispy vegetables giving some crunch however be warned that the size is small and not sufficient as a meal(unless you are a really small eater).
The coffee served here is source from Bali, Indonesia and combines with a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans. If you are not aware most local ‘kopi’ is roasted with sugar and margarine among other things. Chiak roasts them with luscious pure butter to bring out rich caramel flavours and full-bodied taste. They also serve more exotic teas such as organic pandan lemon grass tea or Changrai Oolong tea(2.8SGD – dine in/3.2SGD – take out)
The place is also well stocked with many baked goods such as coffee oat butter cake and Gula Melaka custard vanilla roll if you are interested in some cakes for tea.
