Located at level one of Hotel Jen Tanglin is J65 which showcases the multicultural cuisine of Singapore and features quite a spread of seafood dishes. We visited on Tuesday to sample dishes from the international seafood buffet spread.
The spread includes fresh seafood such as sashimi, Alaskan king crab to muscles and prawns. All the cold seafood offering were good however the cold Alaskan king crab was a touch too salty. We would recommend going for the Mixed Seafood in Spicy Coconut Broth instead. The fragrant yellowish coconut sauce really elevated the seafood including the Alaskan crab to another level with its creamy texture and spices.
Another highlight not to be missed is the Slow Roast Black Angus Beef Prime Ribs. Although it might not look as appetizing at first glance, the beef was fall off the bone tender and the juicy prime ribs were packed with good flavor. I have to admit I went for double helpings.
One of the dishes that we also liked was the signature Laksa, the thick gravy was tasty and it was laksa done right. You can also choose to pair the laksa with the huge prawns from the live grill station.
For something more local try the DIY Kueh Pie Tee as well as the Rojak. Not many places offer good Kueh Pie Tee but the vegetables for the fillings were just the right consistency without being overly wet. The condiments were also comprehensive including the fried crispy flour bits that gave the dish more crunch.
As with any buffet, it should end on a sweet note and the dessert offerings are plentiful. From the unique white chocolate fondue fountain to local kuehs. We felt that the western cakes and pastries to be more outstanding than the local kuehs as it lacked a Nonya flair and fragrance.
Lobster lovers should visit on Wednesday for the Lobster Rock ‘n’ Roll Buffet Dinner where J65 will feature dishes such as their Signature Lobster Laksa. Tandoori Lobster, Grilled Baby Lobster infused with Tarragon Butter and even Lobster Congee.
In Summary, we enjoyed the buffet with the large selection of offerings. The warm and inviting environment is great for large groups of friends to gather plus Hotel Jen is generous on their promotions! Grab some friends and head on over today.
