Like a scene from a Chinese painting, the Dahlia Dreams floral display in Gardens by the Bay’s Flower Dome beckons with its picturesque Chinese garden landscape framed by elegant pavilions, rotating water wheels, and a majestic 35-metre-long archway of red lanterns.
The Gardens is all set to usher in the Chinese New Year with the first floral display of 2019 featuring 5,000 dahlias of more than 100 varieties – some with flowers as large as one’s face. With their sizeable blooms and vibrant colours, dahlias are a wonderful accompaniment to the festival. Known in Chinese as “大丽花”, they bring to mind the auspicious greeting “大吉大利” which conveys wishes of good luck and wealth.

Also on display are other festive plants such as narcissus (水仙), cymbidium (大花蕙兰) and Golden Lotus Banana (地涌金莲), along with the magnificent Senrinzaki or “Thousand Blooms” chrysanthemum arrangement. Carefully cultivated over a period of at least one year, each exquisite arrangement features 500 to 1,500 chrysanthemum flowers blooming from a single plant.
The “Dahlia Dreams” floral display runs till 24 February 2019 in the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay.
