This September, Yamahan makes its way to Singapore for the first time, soft-launching at Lau Pa Sat on 22 September 2026 ahead of its official Grand Opening on 5 October. We got a preview tasting ahead of the soft launch, and here’s how it went.
From Ebisu to Lau Pa Sat
Yamamoto’s Hamburg, better known in Japan as “Yamahan,” has been serving hamburg steaks out of Tokyo’s Ebisu neighbourhood since 2005. It’s the first restaurant concept from Shohei Yamamoto, the same founder behind Hikiniku To Come, which opened its own Singapore outlet in VivoCity back in May. Since then the brand has expanded across Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong, and Lau Pa Sat now marks its Singapore debut.

The concept is a personal one for Yamamoto-san. He’s said the idea traces back to the meals his mother made for him growing up, and that same homemade, comforting quality is what Yamahan is built around, from the patties down to the rice.

What we tried
We started with the signature Yamamoto Hamburg ($19.90), a hand-formed beef-and-pork patty stuffed with Gorgonzola cheese and mushroom cream sauce, finished with a rich demi-glace infused with miso and dashi. This one comes in beef only, no chicken option, and it was easily one of our favourites of the night.
We also had the Kimchi Cheese Hamburg ($19.90), the hot pot-style option simmered in a bubbling kimchi broth with melted cheese on top. We ordered this one with the chicken patty, and it turned out to be our other favourite. The tangy and slightly spicy broth, combined with the cheese, is a fantastic combination you simply must try.

Beyond the two mains, we tried the chicken patty with tomato sauce and again with garlic yuzu-pepper sauce. The chicken patty itself is a Singapore-exclusive, made fresh in-house just for this outlet, and it turned out to be a genuine highlight — really moist, and tasty enough that we’d order it again over the usual beef-and-pork blend if we wanted something lighter.
