It’s not long until Halloween is upon us – so why not make sure your next getaway fits the brief of spooky, atmospheric and haunted? In fact, you don’t even need the excuse of Halloween to visit these spooky places! Hotels.com gives us a run-down of this years’ most haunted activities and destinations.
Find some spooky nature
Deserted forests and landscapes can be spooky at the best of times, but there are some forests that can really set your heart racing. The Aokigahara Forest in Japan has references to demons in Japanese mythology and apparently sets compasses off track, so try your best not to get lost! If that’s not enough, get your friends to go for a walk in Dow Hill forest in India which is said to feature a headless boy that follows you around. That’s enough to make you walk fast!
Build a ghost-filled itinerary
Combine tourism with ghost-spotting at haunted destination like the Bhangarh Fort in India which is supposedly the most haunted place in the country – you can only visit in the day though as they don’t let anyone stay at night! There’s also the Penang War Museum which is on ‘ghost hill’ – it has an interesting history in its own right but it regularly tops list of most haunted places in Asia.
Hear the stories on the night
Nothing brings to life the stories of Halloween like a walking tour – seeing the places that host the spookiest of tales. Try the Dark Side of Seoul Evening Ghost Tour or take yourself on late-night tour of a cemetery. Jeruk Purut Cemetary in Jakarta is meant to be best for ghost-spotting on a Friday night, if you can handle it!
Sleep side-by-side with history
Nothing says Halloween like a place that reminds you of times past and getting a sense of history. Once you’ve found your activities and destination, check into old hotels that have long and interesting histories (there are plenty!), or see if you can find some of the oldest hotels in Asia to get a good sense of times past.
