Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore will be showcasing the best of Singapore’s hawker cuisine this July and August with live cooking stations set up on the terrace of Makan@Jen serving freshly made local dishes, and Chef’s signature Laksa Fried Rice. The hawker promotion is available for dinner, and features local favourites including Roti Prata, Hokkien Mee, Chicken Satay and Oyster Omelette. Diners will also be able to try out some of Singapore’s sweeter selections, including the ever-popular Kaya Toast, various selections of Nonya Kueh and even Bubur Cha Cha with durian!
Central to the dinner will be one of Singapore’s all-time favourites – Singapore Laksa – done with a twist. Chef Lee’s Laksa Fried Rice is his take on a dish that was first brought into Singapore by the Peranakans, who settled in the Katong area between the 15th and 17th centuries. While there are many variations of Laksa, Chef Lee’s Laksa recipe remains a secret, but is freshly made at Makan@Jen and the Laksa Fried Rice is prepared alongside fresh seafood and Laksa sauce.
The hawker dishes served reflect the diversity of Singapore as a country, and also serves as a mirror to its past highlighting the various cultural influences that have played a part in developing the local cuisine. These include Singapore Hokkien Mee, Roti Prata as well as Bubur Cha Cha from the Nyonya cuisine.
Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore’s Hawker Promotion is available for dinner at Makan@Jen, located on Level 10, from 6.30pm to 10.00pm on Mondays-Thursdays for the months of July and August, 2016. It is priced at SGD42++.
