Guide Dogs Singapore Ltd (GDS) celebrates the Year of the Dog this Lunar New Year with a red packet dedicated to guide dogs.
Designed by GDS’ long-time volunteer, Ms Ng Shi Jie, the red packet features a guide dog in a harness affectionately awaiting its handler. The designer has chosen to illustrate the dog in calligraphy style to emphasise the dog’s patience, precision and discipline as the user’s mobility aid. The dog’s image is juxtaposed with a stalk of cherry blossom, signifying new beginnings for people with visual impairment (VI).
When paired with a VI person, the guide dog becomes an integral part of the person’s life, enhancing the user’s mobility, independence and safety, thereby empowering the user to achieve his/her fullest potential in society. The trust and bond between the guide dog and the VI person typically goes beyond the standard seven to nine years of service, extending into a lifetime of exceptional companionship.
Pledge your red packet money to GDS to support their Orientation & Mobility Training and Guide Dog Programme. Be the light and hope which create more of such friendships and freedom. Play a meaningful role in ‘Enabling the Visually Impaired’ this (Guide) Dog Year!
Members of the public can email admin@guidedogs.org.sg to request for complimentary red packets without making a donation before 10 Feb 2018, Saturday, on a first-come-first-serve basis. Every local mailing address is only entitled to one pack of red packets.
