Tian Kee & Cocopy

A Weekend in the Dakota Neighbourhood

Because of the SEA Games’ Nila Run sometime ago, my friend and I headed to Kallang to collect our race packs. We ended up looking for nearby cafes to explore as well. First on our list was the Instagram-famous Tian Kee & Co., followed by the lesser known Brawn & Brains on Guillemard Road. Tian Kee & Co. Converted from an old provision shop, Tian Kee & Co. is located in a quiet corner of Dakota Crescent. Despite the sweltering heat, there were many people there on the day we went. We ordered the rainbow cheesecake, two lattes and a “Half Day Breakfast” to share. Coffee was decent, but what I really love was the rainbow cheesecake. It was light, not gelak like how dense cheesecakes can be. This is their signature dessert. If you head to the café in hot weather, I’ll advise you to eat the rainbow cake fast because it melts into a puddle when it gets warmer! The Half Day Breakfast could be better, though. Both the potatoes and egg weren’t …

Density Launches The First-Ever Frozen Custard Dessert Store in Singapore

The first-ever frozen custard store has been launched in Singapore, bringing the 100-year-old traditional super-premium ice-cream from the U.S.A. to our shores. Velvety-smooth and lusciously creamy, frozen custards are lower in calories and sugar, and made with natural ingredients such as milk, cream and eggs. Density, the chosen brand name, describes the low levels of air incorporated into the making of frozen custard, which in turn allows less use of sugar and more of the ‘good stuff’. Located at 4 Short Street, Density’s flagship store is housed in a historical shophouse, at the junction of Selegie Road and Rochor Canal Road. Taking inspiration from the bustling boardwalk of Coney Island, New York City, from where frozen custard was first served, the 800 sqft shophouse store features elements of the amusement park with a life buo feature and wall murals depicting its origins. Frozen custard is a super-premium type of ice-cream, ahead of premium hard-scoops and gelatos and because of its low overrun and high butterfat content, there is also less need for sugar, making the frozen custard a healthier dessert choice, as it is lower …

‘We Love SG” – Chingay Parade 2015

The First Formal Chingay Parade in Singapore started on 4 February 1973 where the PA (People’s Associations) teamed up with the Singapore National Pugilistic Federation for a grand show in the Year of the Ox. This act was mooted by the then-Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew who was also the chairman of the People’s Association, that Chingay, with all its noise and gaiety, would compensate for the ban on firecrackers, a customary New Year practice to drive away evil spirits.
