In the busy Five spice food court located in B2 of Jewel@Changi is Faai Di by Ka-Soh. The new eating concept by Ka-Soh. As its name suggests “Faai Di” which means Hurry Up in Cantonese offers great quality food served at a quick pace.

Now to dig into a bit of history, Ka Soh are the pioneers of the traditional Cantonese-style fish soup in Singapore, the rich texture and colour of the soup that features a milky white broth is achieved through long-hour boiling of the stock over high heat, without adding milk. They are also the proud recipient of the Singapore Michelin Guide’s Bib Gourmand restaurant in 2016-2018 with businesses in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Mains(Rice/Noodles)

We started our tasting with the sliced fish noodles(9.9SGD), the slice fish noodles had a thick milky soup base with fresh sliced fish however we felt that overall the dish was missing a certain ingredient to elevate it to another level.

The San Lou Her Fun(10.50SGD) faired a lot better with a strong “Wok Hei” flavour paired with the fresh fish and bean sprouts for texture. Each strand of rice noodle was silky and fragrant.

The “Wok Hei” turns up clearly once again in the Yang Zhou Fried Rice(8SGD) Chinese fried rice is the quintessential comfort food. Think of it — a bowl of steaming white rice cooked to just the right consistency, filled with bits of meat and vegetable. The rice here is a clear standout.

Meats

The Spare pork ribs(10SGD) paired with dark sweet sauce was a delight for sharing. The pork ribs were tender with a nostalgic taste that reminded me of my grandma’s cooking.

The steam chicken with Lap Cheong(8.5SGD) was good with juicy chicken bits and salty fragrant Lap Cheong. The ginger brought a good warm to the dish and seasoning was on point without being overly salty.

Vegetable dishes

The crab meat egg tofu(6.50) was silky smooth with quite a generous portion of crab meat that brought good seafood flavour to the tofu. We felt that it was a good value for money.

The spinach in superior stock(10SGD) was a lighter dish that is pair with fried silverfish to bring a light saltiness to the dish. The Ka-soh fried yam(4SGD) is a lighter take on the yam basket that is usually available at “zhu chao” stores. The yam was crispy on the outside and the yam was fulling and soft. The sweet dip provided another flavor profile to break up the starchy heaviness of the yam.

In closing, those looking for a quick and delicious meal can look forward to well executed familiar dishes at good value prices. Faai Di By Ka-Soh is definitely worth a visit if you are looking for delicious Chinese food at Jewel.
