Going for a hotspring session is one common leisure activities that most tourists will do when they visit countries such as Japan and Taiwan. During our visit in December last year, the weather was cooling with an average temperature of 10 degrees, it gave us a perfect reason to visit a hotspring to warm ourselves up.
In Taipei, most of the hotsprings can be found in the Beitou and Yang Ming Shan area, with an increase of upcoming hotsprings and onsen which links the entire area of Beitou, Xin Beitou and Yang Ming Shan together. Grand View Resort Beitou 北投麗禧溫泉酒店 is one chic resort hotel located on a forested hillside with free shuttle service between the metro station and the resort. Grand View Resort also offers elegant rooms with wood floors and equipped with flat-screen TVs, Nespresso machines and free Wi-Fi. All hotel guests will enjoy free perks such as breakfast and a DVD library with a good selections of DVD to choose from.
Most of the cheaper hotspring does not come with a private room and they are divided into two common pools for both genders. You will need to pay slightly more if you are looking for a more exclusive and private experience. There are three outdoor hotsprings that you can choose from, such as the mountain stream outdoor pool which is priced at NT600 for adults and NT400 for child. If you prefer a more private experience, you can choose the private hot spring room which is priced at NT2300 for 90 mins, maximum 2 pax per room which we booked the day before our visit as the resort is quite well loved by the tourist and may expect high occupancy.
The independent private hot spring suite is spacious and comes with a huge tub, a soft and comfortable couch as well as a dressing table. All hot tub suite comes with an ensuite shower and bathroom facilities with towels, sanitized bathing accessories and toiletries too.
The Beitou spring waters are sulphurous and usually gives out a slight pungent smell, but to be honest, we can’t really smell it. There are three varieties of sulphurous hot springs in Beitou such as the green, white and iron sulphur. You can mix it with ordinary tap water to adjust to a comfortable temperature.
It is recommended to take short dips in between instead of soaking urself for a full 90 mins in the hot tub. It is not advisable to immerse yourself in the bathtub for a long period of time as it can excessively raise your blood pressure or heart rate, which might be so uncomfortable that you can’t stand up or walk.

1) Take MRT to Beitou Station, and then take Line Red 25, Little City Bus or Line 230 Big City bus, and get off at the Beitou Taiwan Folk Arts Museum stop.
2) Take the MRT to the New Beitou Station Stop, and then take City Bus 230 in front of the Public Health Clinic, and get off at the Beitou Taiwan Folk Arts Museum stop.
3) Take the MRT to the Beitou Station, and then take the Hotel Shuttle (Free pickup to hotel from 10:00 to 22:00).
