A few weeks back when we’re deciding on a place for dinner at Raffles City, we came across this newly open korean restaurant which served stewed chicken, something different from the usual crispy fried chicken. As a korean cuisine lover, how can I not try it right?
Curious by the name, i did a little research online and got to know more about this dish. The actual name is Andong Jjimdak which means “Steamed chicken of Andong” is originated in the city of Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, made up of chicken, various vegetables marinated in a ganjang based sauce.
Despite the first day of opening, the store is fully packed with a long queue outside. We’re lucky enough since we only need a table for two, our waiting time is only about 10 mins 🙂
We ordered the medium Signature Andong Jjimdak ($40.90, good enough for 2 – 3 pax) and it makes me drool when the dish was served. It looks extremely yummy!
You can find chunks of steamed chicken with carrots and potatoes, as well as sweet potato noodles which looks very similar to the tang hoon that we know of, just that it’s thicker and more chewy. It’s a dish filled with lots of protein and carbs and the chicken taste like our dark soy sauce braised chicken.
Thinking that it might not be enough for the two of use, (only to realize that it’s MORE than enough), we order one side to go along with. These are not fishcakes but mini seafood pancakes! Surprisingly, it’s really tasty but after a few pieces, you might find it a little starchy 🙂
