Recently, we had the pleasure of dining at Seng House, a charming restaurant located at 214 Tanjong Katong Road, Singapore. Known for its Hainanese-inspired menu, Seng House offers a delightful blend of traditional flavours and modern culinary techniques. Here’s a recap of my experience and the dishes we savoured.
Ambiance
Upon entering Seng House, I was greeted by a cozy yet elegant atmosphere. The restaurant features both indoor and alfresco dining options, making it a perfect spot for any occasion. The decor combines soothing white tones with Neptune green accents, creating a refreshing environment that invites relaxation.
The Dishes We Tried
We indulged in several standout dishes that truly showcased the restaurant’s culinary prowess:
Hainanese Pork Chop
Priced at $22.50, this dish was a highlight of our meal. The pork chop was tender and crispy, coated with a unique blend of cream crackers that added an irresistible crunch. It was served with a rich sauce that complemented the meat beautifully, making each bite a delightful experience.
Wat Dan Hor
This classic dish featured silky flat rice noodles topped with a luscious egg gravy. The noodles were perfectly cooked and absorbed the flavors of the gravy, creating a satisfying slurp-worthy experience. Wat Dan Hor is not just a meal; it’s comfort food at its best.
Crabmeat Carrot Cake
A twist on the traditional carrot cake, this dish was infused with fresh crab meat and served with a side of chili sauce for an extra kick. The combination of flavors was both savory and slightly sweet, making it a must-try for seafood lovers.
Cocktails to Complement the Meal
To enhance our dining experience, we ordered two cocktails:
Espresso Martini
This classic cocktail combined rich espresso with vodka for a refreshing pick-me-up that balanced well with our savory dishes.
Dark ‘n’ Stormy
A perfect blend of dark rum and ginger beer, this cocktail added a zesty touch to our meal, complementing the flavors of the food beautifully.
Conclusion
Overall, my dining experience at The Seng House was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of delicious food, inviting ambiance, and attentive service made it a memorable outing. Whether you’re looking for traditional Hainanese dishes or modern interpretations, Seng House is definitely worth a visit. If you’re in the Tanjong Katong area, make sure to stop by after 11:00 am to explore their full lunch menu.
