Launched in July, Papi’s Tacos – a venture by the passionate team behind renowned speakeasy, Employees Only, has established a reputation as the best go-to joint for authentic Mexican eats. And now, the bustling eatery tucked away in the heart of Seah Street opens its shutters for lunch service, a cosy 16-seater joint that is set to spice up the city’s weekday lunch hour. Helmed by native Executive Chef and Partner, Mauricio ‘Papi’ Espinoza, the lunch menu is a spinoff from the hugely popular dinner, with seats available at a first come first served basis. Three expertly put together and affordable lunch sets are available for diners to choose from.
Each set includes a hero main dish, toasty chips and the refreshing Pico de Gallo. Papi’s Set No. 1 ($18), is served with a basket of three tacos making it the perfect sharing portion for two. Taco lovers can choose between the crowd favourite taco fillings – Tacos De Pollo or Tacos De Pescado. Papi’s Set No. 2 ($15) shines a spotlight on the highly raved quesadillas – served in slices of four, patrons will have a choice of either the meaty chicken quesadilla or the cheesy mushroom quesadilla. While Papi’s Set No. 3 ($14) will appeal to the health-conscious individuals with a salad bowl main, poached Mexican cactus, red onion, red radish and Oaxaca cheese.
New to the Papi’s menu is the savoury Esquites ($10), made with grilled street corn, smoked chipotle aioli, and Mexican cheese topped off with lime for a zesty finish. Equally not to be missed à la carte offerings include hand wrapped burritos, an indulgent array of tacos and free flow salsas. For dessert, the Tres Leches cake ($8), is a sinful slice of heaven that is lightly frosted with a pinch of tequila.
Papi’s Tacos is a refreshing departure from the usual Tex-Mex and Cali-Mex restaurants. With punchy Latino beats flowing, genuine hospitality and a fuss free lunch menu – Papi’s makes for a great spot to catch up with friends and to escape from the office stress.
