For those who are able to read the Chinese word will be able to identify this place as an Optometry based on the Chinese word 宮原眼科, but you will be surprised when you arrive at this place.
Miyahara Optometry was established in 1920s by the Japanese opthamologist Dr. Miyahara Takeo. In 2010, the building was purchased over by Taichung-based Dawn Cakes enterprise and has renovated into its flagship store, selling Dawn Cakes infamous pineapple cakes and cheesecakes. They also specialize in candies, chocolates, and ice cream as well.
The high-rise ceiling with huge glass display counter filled with chocolates and candies is one of the main highlights of the interior design. It looks like a wizard’s pharmacy filled with magic potions, similar to a setting you’ll find in a Harry Porter movie.
The other highlight of the store is the packaging of the products. They are nicely wrapped in branded paper and delicately placed in a pretty paper box and tied with golden ribbons.
There’s also a restaurant, Moon Pavilion restaurant (醉月樓) located on the second floor which serves Taiwanese cuisine which we will be sharing more about in another post.
