The MasterChef series is one of my favourite guilty pleasures when I am at home. I particularly like the Team Challenges, when the chefs are divided into two teams and have to prepare an entire menu of dishes for a large group of diners at an event. I also love the Mystery Box challenges. It’s interesting to watch the amateur chefs at work, and sometimes I am inspired to try out new dishes from what I see on the show.
This is why I am quite excited to learn that the inaugural MasterChef Asia is debuting on Lifetime Channel this Thursday, 3 September. There are three Singaporean contestants on the show – Lennard Yeong, an engineer; Woo Wai Leong, a lawyer; and Sandrian Tan, a homemaker. Go Singapore go!
Last Saturday, we watched a live cook-off between these three Singaporean contestants in Nex Shopping Mall. The judges, Susur Lee, Audra Morrice and Bruno Menard, were there as well, providing commentary about the dishes that the three contestants were preparing.
The three contestants also answered the public’s questions about their signature dishes and how it was like filming on MasterChef Asia.
I really enjoyed the live cook-off and the lively, natural banter between the judges. There were several moments when the packed audience in Nex laughed out loud at what the judges were saying. If that is anything to go by, MasterChef Asia will definitely be interesting to watch – can’t wait for it!
