Nestled at a lovely quiet corner of the Greenwood neighbourhood, the journey for your tastebuds at Roots Mediterranean is anything but tamed. Set in a homely setting with brick-walled decor and warm lighting, the repertoire at Roots is definitely the taste of homecoming.
To kick off the Christmas Brunch is a wide selection of “Tapas, Mezze and Antipasti”. Ranging from Octopus Gallego, to Taztziki and Hummus, we find the Greek and Fatoush salad especially refreshing and appetising.
Fans of freshly baked quiche will be hard-pressed to make a choice. From vegetarian options of tomatoes and artichokes variety to turkey ham & cheese, we are impressed with how the creamy texture of the quiche waltzed with the crispy crust. Definitely worth the calories!
Another feature that’s definitely worth putting all diet plans on hold till after the New Year will be the live station for the pasta. The Chef torches the cheese wheel right in front of you, and toss freshly cooked pasta into the wheel. The result, heavenly smooth al dente fettuccine coated with creamy cheese, topped off with aromatic truffle oil. We have to resist going for seconds!
At the “Carving Station”, you can find Lamb Leg roasted with Oregano. The Chef shared that this is a Greek Christmas tradition. The Oregano lends a nice earthy, musty, minty taste to the natural saltiness of the lamb.
Another star of the Station will be the Beef Wellington, there is no need for any other particular reason for having it, I quote the Chef, “just because it is nice!” The buttery-flaky pastry provides amazing contrast with the tender and juicy beef fillet inside! Check out how the juice oozes out when the Wellington fillet is sliced, it is poetry in motion.
We sampled some of the Chef-curated items available in “Served on the Table”.
Fans of fresh seafood would swoon at the Oysters with Cava, made especially delectable when paired with a glass of sparkly Prosecco. The presentation of the Lobster & Prawn Pizza was such a masterpiece, we have to resist taking too many photos before sinking our teeth into the succulent pieces of seafood, nicely ensembled with tomatoes and herbs.
A meal is never complete without happy endings, and “The Sweet End” is true bliss! On top of the usual spread of cheeses and cakes, the festive range is a treat for any sweet tooth. The Berry Mousse cake has the perfect balance of sweet and tart, with the exact ratio of creaminess of the mousse and fluffiness of the cake sponge. If you prefer a caffeine kick in your desserts, go for the Panetonne with Tiramisu Cream; we only managed one spoonful before it was all gone!
For the upcoming festive season, indulge in the Christmas Brunch at Roots Mediterranean for only $78+! Quote “DarrenBloggie” and bring home a delicious bottle of Prosecco!
