Rumpoles Bar at Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore introduces five hawker-inspired cocktails this National Day holiday season. With names like Sling, Kopi-B, Asam, Fare and TEH-Ice, these drinks will definitely conjure up memories of times spent sitting at the kopitiam (‘coffee shop’ in the Hokkien dialect), chatting and relaxing with friends.
Staying true to character, Rumpoles Bar is effortlessly old-school but subversive. Sling is a variation of the iconic Singapore Sling served in a hawker’s plastic bag (normally used to tabao drinks at kopitiams) and finished off with a dried pineapple wheel. The other notable ‘plastic bag’ offering is a super-strength version of teh-o limau ice (iced lemon tea) called TEH-Ice. Ketel vodka, St. Germain elderflower and black tea form the body, whilst honey and calamansi provide sweet and sour notes.
For individuals who are more adventurous, Kopi-B is the cocktail to try. Unique and nutty, the combination of Highwest rye-infused bacon whiskey, Punt e Mes (a dark, bitter Italian vermouth) and a Maraschino cherry make for a full-flavoured, hearty drink accented by a touch of cherry sweetness. And yes, you get bacon strips on a mini bamboo skewer to use as your stirrer.
No good cocktail would be complete without a bar snack, and Rumpoles has done Singapore proud. Enjoy local favourites such as the Chicken Satay, Popiah Rolls, Kueh Pie Tee, Sambal Ikan Bilis with Roasted Nuts and Epok-epok together with your friends.
As part of the #hawkersgcocktails project, Rumpoles has also put together a short video showcasing the inspiration behind these cocktails as well as providing a sneak peek into how these five concoctions are prepared and presented.
So do come down to Rumpoles and lepak (‘relax’ or ‘chill’) !
