Our previous visit to Beast & Butterflies was comforting with excellent food selections. With the opening of restaurants on 2 Jun 2020 and the easing of the “circuit breaker” aka Singapore’s version of lockdown to flatten the COVID-19 pandemic, we revisited this treasure nestled in the charming vicinity of Robertson Quay.
Starters
We started dinner with the HEIRLOOM TOMATO POMEGRANATE BURRATA SALAD(22SGD++) with roasted pepitas, sliced almond, baby spring greens and fig jam and served on top of toasted baguette. The combination of classic Italian flavours was in the right proportions and the serving was actually good for a light meal.

For healthy options, go for the QUINOA TABBOULEH(14SGD++) quinoa, sea salt, lemon juice, olive oil, feta cheese, garlic and mint leaves. This would be a perfect substitute for rice for those looking at a lower carb option for dinner. The quinoa had a good bite and went well with the sourness from the lemon and the freshness from the mint.

The TORCHED SALMON & AVOCADO TARTARE fresh salmon, avocado topped with ikura, ginger oil, sliced crispy shallots, tempura bits and garlic chips is another satisfying option. The creamy avocado went well with the fresh salmon and the warmth from the ginger oil brought everything together. The pairing with sliced crispy shallots, garlic chips and tempura bits gave the whole dish a good contrast.

Local Delights
For something out of the ordinary go for the 3 CUP LOBSTER IN CLAYPOT(68SGD++) The wok-fried Maine lobster had wok hei ! and is extremely fragrant when it came to the table with its rice wine, sesame oil infusion. This is a perfect dish with steamed rice and is a good rendition of the Taiwan 3 Cup chicken.

CHARCOAL GRILLED
For mains, we tried the Australian 30-36 Months pasture-fed Angus beef RIB EYE (36SGD++), KUROBUTA Pork Chop (36SGD++) and STRIPLOIN(34SGD++). The meats were all cooked perfectly but I felt that the flavour of the beef was lacking and similar to the beef that you might get at a hotel buffet. This might be due to the lack of marbling in the meat and no fault of the chef. Each main came with a side and sauce, we recommend the ratatouille and black pepper jus. Additional sides and sauces at(6SGD++) each.

Soups
LOBSTER BISQUE(16SGD++) the creamy emulsion with diced tender lobster was divine with a deep seafood flavour. If you take beef, I would recommend the CLASSIC ONION SOUP(14SGD++) the beef consomme served with gratinated Gruyère crouton. The crispy and salty crouton soaked up the beefy goodness from the onion soup and each slurp was accentuated with the sweetness of the onion.
Good for sharing
The 1 METER BOARD is a selection of 5 cold cuts & 5 cheese with 1 pork pâté (50g) or 1 duck pâté (50g)served with French baguette basket, olives, gherkin, crackers, dried fruits, honey, mixed nuts and pommery mustard. The good news is that you can select your meats in case someone in the group does not eat beef.
cold cut selection: paris ham, pork Gillette, bresaola, parma ham, duck rillette capocollo chambost saucisson cheese selection: brie camembert goat cheese roquefort comté grana padano gruyère burrata
Deserts
No meal is complete without something sweet, we recommend the THAI MILK TEA PUDDING(10SGD++) Thai milk tea flavoured pudding with caramelized coconut banana and evaporated milk. The fragrant tea permeated each bite of the pudding. The crunch in the dish came from the caramel art and thankfully it was not overly sweet.
MOLTEN CHOCOLATE CAKE(15SGD++) is also a choice for chocolate lovers, made with Valrhona Guanaja 70% and topped with a mini Magnum. The magnum was an interesting twist in place of scope of ice cream, quite playful of the chief.
Many would have eaten molten lava cakes but have you tried a molten cheesecake ? If not try the MOLTEN CHEESE CAKE(16SGD++). The dessert is made with cream cheese and Valdeón cheese was soft melty and had the right amount of sweetness.

For the non-alcoholics try the EXOTIC PARADISE(10SGD++) I loved the passion fruit, coconut, mint in the mix. For something stronger try the SOCIAL #1(25SGD++)with Havana club, malibu, Curacao, pineapple, coconut, lime.
