If you are getting sick of heading to the same usual Hong Kong Cafe in Singapore, this might be a good news for your as the newly opened Crystal Jade HK Cafe IN located at Bugis+ is here to bring you some yummy Hong Kong Fare! 🙂
Personally i quite like that modern futuristic interior of the cafe.. 🙂
Having fun snapping pics at the photo booth!
beginning my meal with the most popular drink you can find in a Cha Chan Teng, Chilled Milk Tea! This chilled milk tea served in the cafe makes a dramatic entrance in a swirl of dry ice and is then served in shot glasses!
Deep-fried Spring Chicken with Fries & Lemongrass
香茅脆皮鸡 ($ 8.80/$ 16.80 half/whole)
Crisp and fragrant Spring Chicken with a hint of lemongrass – served with a generous portion of French Fries. Personally i quite like this.. it’s really tasty! the meat is not too dry despite deep frying it. But i can’t really taste the lemongrass in it…
Kushiyaki Sandwich 串烧三文治 $ 4.80
Literally translated, Kushiyaki, like Yakitori, means “stuff on stick.” These are sandwiches on a stick with bite-sized pieces of bread, grilled chicken, green and red peppers. Not too bad but i think the flavour can be stronger 😉
Crispy Snack Basket 香脆小食蓝 $ 6.80
A lip-smacking plate of deep fried finger foods come together for great starter of Spring Roll, Crispy Chicken Mid Wing, Bean curd with Pepper and Salt, French Fries, and Crispy Calamari Rings. Anything deep fried is tasty right? hahaha~ Great for a group of friends if you are looking for some small bites and drinks to chill 🙂
Crispy Macau Pork Chop Bun 澳门奇脆猪扒包 $ 4.80
This is a popular snack found in Macau. This dish pairs a thin, tender, juicy piece of freshly deep fried pork chop with sliced cucumber, tomato, lettuce and crispy bean curd skin and envelopes it between a delicious bun that’s soft on the inside and crispy and firm on the outside. As usual, i think the flavour of the pork chop can be stronger and the bun is actually kinda hard and tough..
HK Minestrone Soup 罗宋汤 $ 3.90
Taste good when it’s served hot, but a little too salty for my liking.
Can’t remember the name of this dish, it’s actually curry seafood served in a toast. Melissa and Jasper ordered it to try and according to them, it gotta be their favourite dish that night. they really love it soo much~
Hong Kong Cart Noodle 香港传奇车仔面 $ 4.00
Never get to try this during my visit to Hong Kong. From what i know, it’s one of their locals favourite. These noodles come with a large selection of side ingredients, including quintessentially Singapore sides like cuttlefish, fishball and chicken sausage. Not that bad and the portion is quite generous for that price you are paying for 😉
Now the main highlight for the night! D.I.Y Braised Rice 自己煮饭仔 $ 9.50 – $ 9.80 ! Everything comes RAW, yes, even the rice!
Listening attentively to the instructions…
So firstly, you needa “cook” the rice first. you put in the raw rice into the claypot, add in the water and let it boil for ard 10mins, before you add in your ingredients to cook for another 10 mins. so a total of 20 mins is needed to prepare this dish.
Lastly, add in the egg and tada~ you are ready to eat! Crystal Jade’s DIY Braised Rice comes in three flavours: Braised Rice with Minced Meat, Salted Fish & Egg; Braised Rice with Chicken, Mushroom, Preserved Sausage and Egg; and Braised Rice with Soft Pork Bone & Egg.
OH! one last step before you start eating, add in the sauce and mixed it well..
The overall experience was kinda fun and something interesting that im sure most of you would love to try it out. But just one suggestion here, probably you might wan to add in the sauce and the egg together so that the sauce can sip into the rice better. 😉
Ending our dinner with dessert!
Grass Jelly with Beancurd 豆腐凉粉 $ 3.30 – $ 4.00
A combination of smooth, silky beancurd and grass jelly comes with a wide selection of toppings such as: sweet potato ball, yam ball, black pearl, red bean, sago, vanilla ice cream, nata de coco, green tea konjac, diced mango, diced strawberry and banana. 😉
