Visiting the night markets in Taiwan is not only something that the tourists will do. Locals love to visit the night markets too! There are a few popular night markets in Taiwan and Fengjia Night Market in Taichung is the one that you should visit.
Established in 1963, The Fengjia Night Market (逢甲夜市) is Taichung’s largest and most popular night market which originated as a small market around Fengjia University. You will get to find an assortment of shops selling food and drinks, clothes, restaurants, as well as game booths. During our trip to Taiwan, we managed to visit Fengjia Night Market as it’s only walking distance from our accommodation at La Vida Hotel, and here’s some recommendation for you to try from the night market!
逢甲月亮蝦饼 Feng Jia Crispy Prawn Cake
Ironically, we should be trying something local but this is actually similar to the crispy Thai fish cake that we commonly found in a Thai restaurant or as a street snack in Thailand. It’s crispy yet not oily and it goes really well with the Thai chili sauce!
炭烤按摩鸡排 Char-grilled Massage Chicken
The char-grilled chicken was extremely juicy and tender! Be prepared to queue for at least 15 mins or more just for this.
帝鈞碳烤胡椒餅 Pepper Meat Bun
Definitely, a must try as this was awarded Michelin Star under the Street Food list! As usual, expect the queue to be long for this, but it’s totally worth your time and the peppery taste of the well-marinated meat is so good!
There is a lot more other street food that you can find at this night market, so be sure to visit with an empty stomach! The crowd will usually start to flow in from 7:00 pm in the evening and most of the stalls are opened till late. 🙂
